Are you a plant lover who doesn’t particularly have a green thumb? You’re in luck! One of the most popular, and easy to maintain plant genus is the Pothos house plant. These plants are known to thrive in low-light conditions and can handle a forgetful owner. Native to Southeast Asia, China, and the Pacific islands, Pothos come in a wide variety of colors and sizes to complement any room or décor. Pothos in the wild can grow up to 10 feet tall with leaves over 3 feet in width. Additionally, Pothos are known to hold many health benefitsincluding improving air quality and purification. 

01. THE GOLDEN POTHOS

The Golden Pothos, also known as the Pothos Devil’s Ivy, has heart shaped leaves that sport bright green color with gold, cream, and yellow variegation. In addition to its low maintenance, the Golden Pothos propagationis one of the easiest to undergo. It grows as a vine and looks great in hanging baskets or atop shelves.  

Golden Pothos Lighting Requirements:The Golden Pothos light needs include indirect sun. Indirect or filtered sun is when sun exposure is filtered through a sheer curtain to protect your plant from direct sun rays.
Golden Pothos Water Requirements:The Golden Pothos only requires a ½ a cup of water or until the first inch of soil is moist every 10 days. When the soil feels dry one to two inches below the surface, it is time to water your plant. Allow adequate drainage to prevent root rot.

02. MARBLE QUEEN POTHOS

The Marble Queen Pothos is a perennial vine plant that comes in variations of white and green. The name ‘Marble Queen’ derives from the marble-like appearance that the white and green appears to make on this plant’s leaves.  

Marble Queen Pothos Lighting Requirements:The Marble Queen Pothos requires indirect sunlight and can thrive in a dim-lit room that provides about an hour of direct sunlight a day with the rest of the day receiving indirect light. 
Pothos Water Requirements: The Marble Queen Pothos only requires ½ a cup of water or until the first inch of soil is moist. This plant requires weekly waterings with time for the soil to dry in-between. Allow any excess water to drain from the pot to ensure there no Pothos root rot occurs.

03. JADE POTHOS

The Jade Pothos is often regarded as one of the smaller Pothos species. Originating from the Solomon Islands, this plant only reaches an average of 7 to 8 cm in height. The Jade Pothos has medium sized heart shaped leaves that are a solid, emerald green color. This plant loves to vine and is perfect for hanging baskets or ledges where its leaves can cascade downward.

Jade Pothos Lighting Requirements: Although the Jade Pothos can thrive in low light conditions, this plant prefers medium light exposure. Medium light is achieved when your plant is able to receive indirect light while sitting about 7-10 feet away from a south or west-facing window. 
Jade Pothos Water Requirements:The Jade Pothos only requires 1 cup of water, or until the top inch of soil is moist every 14 days or until the soil is completely dry. The Jade Pothos is tolerant of sporadic watering, however, once the top two inches of soil is dry you should water your plant. Do not allow your plant to sit in water as this will cause rot.

04. SILVER SATIN POTHOS

The Silver Satin Pothos originates in Southeast Asia. The Silver Satin Pothos genus name derives from the Greek word,’skindapsos’ which means ‘upon tree trunks’. This is from its ability to attach itself to the trunks of trees and grow along the entire height of the tree. The silver veins emblazoned in its leaves will reflect light and make for a stunning addition to your home or workspace.

Snow Queen Pothos Water Requirements:The Snow Queen Pothos can be forgiving in its water schedule. This plant requires 1 cup or water or until the top inch of soil is moist. Allow the top two to three inches of soil to dry out before watering again. Take care not to overwater as this can lead to root rot.

06. POTHOS MANJULA

The Pothos Manjula is a beautiful vining plant that has heart-shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves are splashed in cream, white, silver and green variegation with each leaf sporting different colors and markings. Although growing in popularity, the Manjula is a rarer species of Pothos and you may need to do some hunting in order to get your hands on one of these!

Pothos Manjula Water Requirements:The Manjula Pothos only requires 1 cup of water every 14 days or until the first inch of soil is moist. The Manjula pothos prefers moist soil that is not overly wet. It is best to water your plant when the top three to four inches feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in the dormant months to prevent root rot.

07. GREEN QUEEN POTHOS

The Green Queen Pothos is known for being one of the easiest plants to care for. It grows in a vine-like fashion with beautiful heart-shaped leaves that can show off gorgeous variegation in white to yellow colors. With its air purifying abilities, the Green Queen Pothos is a must have for any plant parent!  

Green Queen Pothos Lighting Requirements: The Green Queen Pothos requires indirect sun exposure. Indirect sun or filtered sun is when sun exposure is being filtered through a sheer curtain or is not able to have the sun's rays directly hit the leaves/flowers of your plant.
Green Queen Pothos Water Requirements:The Green Queen Pothos will need to be watered about every 7 days or until the top few inches of soil has dried out. Expect to water more if they are in brighter lighting conditions and less if they are not getting direct or filtered sunlight. Ensure that your plant is in a pot with drainage holes so it can get rid of excess water!

08. PEARLS AND JADE POTHOS

Pearls and Jade Pothos is a variety that was created at the University of Florida from a mutation selection of Marble Pothos. This plant has beautiful trailing foliage that is perfect for brightening an indoor environment. The Pearls and Jade have green and cream variegation as well as green and cream mixed together.

Pearls and Jade Pothos Lighting Requirements: The Pearls and Jade prefers partial shade. Partial shade is achieved when your plant is able to receive between 3-6 hours of direct sunlight per day. These hours of sun exposure should occur during the early hours of the morning, this will relieve your plant from the intensity of afternoon sun!
Pearls and Jade Pothos Water Requirements:The Pearls and Jade Pothos prefers moist soil. This plant requires 1 cup of water every 7 days or until the first inch of soil is moist. Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry between waterings. Ensure that your plant is in a pot with drainage holes to protect your plant from potential root rot!

09. GLACIER POTHOS

The Glacier Pothos, like most Pothos, is a low-maintenance plant that features small, green leaves with cream-colored variegation. Their leaves are pinnately shaped and offer air purifying qualities. This plant can adapt to nearly any lighting conditions, but keep in mind that some sunlight is necessary to keep their variegation!  

Glacier Pothos Lighting Requirements: The Glacier Pothos prefers bright, indirect sun. Indirect sun or Filtered sun is when sun exposure is being filtered through a sheer curtain or is not able to have the sun's rays directly hit the leaves/flowers of your plant.
Glacier Pothos Water Requirements:The Glacier Pothos does not like soggy soil, so only water your plant with ½ a cup of water every 7 days or until the top inch of soil is moist. Although soggy soil can cause damage and root rot to this plant, do not allow the soil to completely dry out either. 

10. N JOY POTHOS

The N Joy Pothos also known as the Vine N Joy are a smaller variation of the pothos species, only trailing up to 10 feet and reading a height of 6 to 9 inches.These plants have smaller leaves with multi-colored pattern of green and white/cream variegation, making them quite the centerpiece.

N Joy Pothos Lighting Requirements: The N Joy Pothos prefers indirect sun that mimics the canopy of its native tropical environment. Indirect sun is when the plant receives indirect light for the majority of the day through a western or southern facing window.
N Joy Pothos Water Requirements:The N Joy Pothos requires moist but not soggy soil. Water this plant with about ½ a cup or until the first inch of soil is moist. Ensure the first one to two inches of topsoil to dry before watering again.
