Ko'oloa'ula is a tall, sweeping shrub that may reach a height of 10 feet. The breadth of the leaves may range from an inch to roughly five inches. In terms of texture, they are plush. The tiny hibiscus-like blossoms tend to droop downward. Although the blooms are lovely up close, they are typically obscured by the much bigger leaves and are thus not easily seen from afar. Flowering Ko'oloa'ula may be seen in various hues, including pink, pink and white, light red, maroon, deep purplish-red (wine), salmon, and blond or butter, despite the Hawaiian word ula referring to the more usually observed red color. There is a yellowish column in the middle, which represents stamina.
